Driven by its strong network of artists and researchers, Tiuku disseminates solid knowledge into the world.

In this endeavour, we are constantly on the lookout for new ways of combining artistic work and scientific study.

We take particular pride in our work for strengthening the audibility of young voices in society.

SONGWRITING WORKSHOPS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

G SongLab is a concept developed by Tiuku where young people share their thoughts and observations through their own songs and music. Our art workshops are free of charge and help bring young people together across linguistic, socio-economical, and cultural barriers. Engagement in joint creative processes is a great way of developing one’s social, artistic and civic skills as well as of gaining insight in and fostering respect for one another’s lived experiences and perspectives. G SongLab creates channels and opportunities for self-expression also for young people who have not managed to find a place within the confines of formal art curriculums. One of the major art pedagogy studies in Finland in the last ten years, ArtsEqual, singles out G SongLab as an example of the sort of new thinking that is needed to create more equal opportunities for young people to gain access to support in their quests for artistic self-expression and free-time activities.

QUOTE DOCUMENTARIES

Quote Documentaries are a format developed by Tiuku to provide projects working with socially and political relevant but often sensitive knowledge. QuoteDocumentaries are short quote driven short films that help bring out some of the core findings especially from interview-based materials. One example is the six-part documentary series “Being Part of Society”, which is based on a large set of interviews with young people who have sought and received help. The rich material was made available by Finnish Academy -funded research project All Youth and the Finnish Red Cross’ Youth shelters, which host the films on their campaign page, bringing attention to the complexities of young people’s lives as they take their first steps towards an autonomous existence as young adults. Other examples include Tiuku’s cooperation with NordForsk-financed project Drawing Together, where QuoteDocumentaries and other documentary films help shed light on the experiences of young refugees in Finland, Norway and Scotland. QuoteDocumentaries are a capable tool in the service sensitive but impactful research communication. The same thinking and similar concepts are applied in other projects that we create together with our partners in civic society as well as in research and in the arts.
